About science synergy
Founded in August 2013 by Harriton High School juniors, Science Synergy brings science enthusiasm to Philadelphia middle schools by establishing science clubs with STEM-related activities and conducting inter-school competitive events. In its first year, Science Synergy and its partner organization, iPraxis, developed extracurricular programs for two Philadelphia School District middle schools. It recruited Harriton High School Science Club and Science Olympiad students to host Science Day on January 30th and the Science Synergy Invitational competition on June 5th. At Science Day, Harriton High School students explained scientific concepts to the middle school kids and their families by performing interactive demonstrations. This served as a promotional event to get middle schools students excited about participating in Science Synergy's invitational competition later in the year. At the invitational, small teams from each school competed, and the top three teams were awarded first, second, and third place ribbons. Looking forward, Science Synergy will expand to include more schools of the Philadelphia area in its programs. It will expand by hosting more Science Days, increasing the number of participating schools for the Science Synergy Invitational, and continuing to develop engaging STEM programs for the community.
